October is Canadian Islamic History Month

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahu Wa Barakatuhu,

In 2007, the Parliament of Canada proclaimed October as Canadian Islamic History Month.

Since then, October is celebrated as Canadian Islamic History and Heritage Month in an increasing number of cities and provinces. As a result of MANAL's outreach and advocacy, the City of St. John's and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador have also joined these celebrations by making similar proclamations in 2019 and 2022 respectively.

In addition to advocating for these proclamations, MANAL is also involved in developing a Muslim Archive at Memorial University to preserve our history for future generations. Some of the historical archival material that are located so far can be found in the following short video clip.

During this month of October, we encourage you all to learn and educate others about the great contributions of Muslims in our province and beyond. Our local public libraries have great resources on this subject including some books that were donated by MANAL.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan,

MANAL Executive Committee
